HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an education and care setting – This program has been specifically tailored for educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies that may involve infants, children or adults.

Students are required to complete an assessment prior to the commencement of the First Aid course:

This involves reading the course E- Book Text and filling out an assessment work book. The assessment certificate is to be printed by the student and handed into the office prior to day of training.

Students are required to complete an assessment prior to the commencement of the First Aid course:

There is a hard copy of the text book and a hard copy of the assessment booklet available at Tomaree Community College office in working hours if this suits you better. The books are only given out to an enrolled student. The instructions for this process will be given to students at enrolment.

USI unique Student Identifier number

The USI will be available online and at no cost to you. The USI will stay with you for life and be recorded with any nationally recognised VET course that is undertaken from 1st January 2015.

Why do I need a USI?

You may need to provide evidence of your academic achievements, for example when applying for a job or to undertake further study.

Everyone undertaking nationally recognised VET courses will need to have a USI to receive their statement of attainment or qualification.

Your USI must be provided to Tomaree Community College before you can receive a statement of attainment or qualification. Tomaree Community College will not be allowed to issue your certificate unless we have your USI recorded.

Throughout this course you will gain skills, knowledge and confidence in responding and how to manage the following types of situations:

  • allergic reactions
  • anaphylaxis
  • bleeding
  • seizures and convulsions
  • drowning
  • wound care
  • burn and scald care
  • cardiac emergencies and conditions
  • stroke
  • diabetic emergencies
  • choking emergencies
  • asthmatic emergencies
  • fractures, sprains and strains
  • bites and stings
  • head and neck injuries
  • spinal injuries
  • shock
  • abdominal injuries
  • positioning of unconscious casualty

You will also learn how to confidently perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that may be required in any of the above situations, use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and accurately handover vital details of the incident to emergency response personnel.

At the end of the course, you will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units where competency has been achieved.

In this course, you will learn techniques specific to infants and children in relation to:

  • identify emergencies
  • identify dangers to self, others and the casualties
  • gain assistance from others and casualty consent
  • assess first aid management required
  • seek assistance from emergency response services
  • perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to Australian Resuscitation (ARC) guidelines
  • operate first aid equipment, including an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • apply first aid principles
  • manage allergic reactions
  • mange and use different types of adrenaline auto injectors for anaphylaxis
  • monitor the casualty’s condition
  • communicate with emergency services and authorities the details of the casualty’s injuries and incident

We offer training in formats that suit you and your workplace in accordance with the unit of competency, training package or accredited course .

This course is available as classroom based only. Experienced and engaging trainers will take you through the course material face to face.

PLEASE NOTE: A requirement for the assessment of CPR is that it must be performed on the floor.

All course material is provided and inclusive with course fees. Please bring along:

  • your completed first aid pre-course workbook
  • a notebook and pen
  • photo ID e.g. drivers licence, student card, or photo ID card
  • wear comfortable, suitable clothing
  • you are also encouraged to bring a towel or work out mat as you will be performing CPR on the floor
